This week’s #‎CTFoodieFeature is Neil Grant.
Neil is one of South Africa’s finest wine experts and restauranteurs.
After graduating, Neil spent 7 years in San Fransisco where he earned his sommelier certificate after working with the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant which was voted the best wine merchant in the USA.
He came back to South Africa in 2006 where he then helped build up Rust-en-Vrede with chef David Higgs. In 3 short years it was voted one of South Africa’s top restaurants.
Then in 2011 Neil and his business partner, Barry Engelbrecht decided that Cape Town needed a restaurant that served top quality food without the stuffiness of a fine dining establishment. So in 2012, Burrata opened its doors at the Old Biscuit Mill.

More recently, Neil has opened a new Italian restaurants in Bree street called Bocca which serves the best pizza in Cape Town, thanks to the pizza oven that Neil imported straight from Naples, Italy.
Neil also currently serves as the Chairman of the ‘South African Sommeliers Association’.
Neil and Barry are also excited to announce that the ‘River Cafe’ in Constantia, now called ‘Open Door Restaurant‘ is set to open its doors at the end of May.
Have you been to any of Neil’s restaurants? Let me know in the comment section!
